I know a person who came across an deal on ebay that was too good to be true. I will just paste excerpts here. I couldn't find this ad on ebay but someone I know did and actually kept going through a series of contacts to get here:

Story he used:
Hello and have a good day. My name is Bares Figo and i am from Lisbon,Portugal.I am very glad that you emailed me regarding the tractors i have for sale. Me and my friend Mr.Costelo Arante bought an entire stok from a bankrupt
store that was selling this kind of equipment. WE sold the attachements and o! thers and we still have these 5 machines. We took them at a very low price.
The scam:
Hi there,
I understand that you are affraid to send the deposit but look PLEASE see things my way and that i will have to security to send the tractor with no money send prior shipping.I will explain you something that looks like C.O.D. in the way that i will receive the money AFTER and ONLY AFTER you are in the tractor's possesion.
Buyer will send money via Western Union to Buyers account in Portugal. Once the amount is confirmed by Seller, Seller will arrange shipping via Lufthansa to the Buyer location ,shipping company to arrive at the buyer exact address. Seller will also provide tracking number.
Buyer will inspect the tractor and once it meets his expectations, he will immediately change the Western Union
account name to Sellers and he can receive the payment.
Seller will provide all necessary documents including proof of ownership to be changed to Buyer once
the tractor is acceptedand paid. Look forward to receiv! e the deposit details.

I'm told there is a common fraud involving any number of means of getting people to wire money overseas.
The hook is that people feel safe since the money is being wired to THEMSELVES.
However, since Western Union in Potugal do not know the 'Buyer' from Adam anybody who walks in shows some forged ID gets the money.
This is a variation on the I'll send you a cheque for $5,000 more than your asking for your tractor, just send the 'extra' $5,000 to my shipper for transportation costs, the problem is the cheque you have will not clear, if you send your cheque you're out the money.

I came across a simliar "deal" a few months back -- only the Kubota and John Deere were in Italy. I exchanged emails for about a week before I said no way. I wanted the deal to be on the up and up, but knew it was a scam. ....

If anyone gets an email from Ebay asking to verify you account info, don't do it, it's someone trying to get your pass words and the use of your account. I get an email every other day, they say if not verified in 24 hrs they will close my account. I sent a copy to Ebay and they sent me a notice it was a fraud. ....

i saw the kubota with loader and hoe for like 2300 bucks more like 23k worth of machine. fortunately no-one was bidding and im glad.
also a friend of mine who took over the payments on my jd855 got taken on a yamaha wave boat (jetski?) of some type on ebay for the tune of like 4 grand from some guy up in michigan.
so we all should beware if it sounds to good...

Welcome John Hall! My buddy called me about this ad to see what I thought. I immediately said it was a scam. Why would anyone want to sell a machine for $3,700 when you could sell it for $10,000 in a day? And from Portugal? Made no sense. Deals that are too good to be true and make no sense are scams. And when an e-bay ad states to "send a note to xxxx at xxx.com before you bid" you know that something is up. ....

my immediate thought on this ad after i saw the price and seeing the bucket had never been in a dirt pile was that some person had went to a nearby dealer. say on a sunday and took a myriad of photos of new machine and claimed it was his. it seems the ad said location was "sunny US"
like mulder says "trust no-one" its a shame too as tractors are confusing enough to even machine oriented folks much less new entries into rural life needing a power unit. then some t**d tries to scam them too.
